Frequently Asked Questions
Question: The program stops halfway through the installation process, or will not install at all. What do I do?
- Make sure that no other software is running while you are trying to install the program. This includes screen savers, Antivirus software, Microsoft Office Toolbar, etc. If you cannot find a way to close a program, press and hold the Ctrl, Alt, and Del Keys 1 time. This will bring up a list of running applications. If there is anything else running, click on it and then click on "End Task." Repeat this process until the only applications left are Explorer and Systray. Try to run the installation program again. Now it should install fine.
- Check for free space on your hard drive. To do this, double-click on My Computer, right-click on the disk drive, and check the free space. You will need about 20 Megabytes during installation. If you do not have 20 Megabytes free, then you will need to uninstall some other programs or install the software on another disk drive.
- Reboot your computer and then make sure no other software is running. Sometimes other applications do funny things to the Windows operating system. After you have rebooted, try to install the software again.
Question: I am running Windows NT 4.0, and everything seemed to install fine. However, now that I have installed the software, I cannot connect to the internet, and I am having ome other problems that I have not had before I installed the software. What can I do?
There is an issue with one of Microsoft's files, wsock32.dll. The file version we install is version 4.1, and the version on your computer was 4.0. This created an incompatability, which will keep several Windows Services from starting correctly. To fix this problem, you need to uninstall your current service pack and then install Service Pack 6a, which is available free from the Microsoft Windows Update site. This issue has been addressed, and if you download the software after 6/22/00, you will not need to use this fix. If you do have problems, please call us immediately at 1-888-254-ECHO, and we will be glad to assist you.
